project: art-deco inspired details at dyrsl
DESCRIPTION
Dee Why RSL is constantly evolving and improving the amenity for members and guests. Altis Architecture and Di Emme Creative Solutions have been along for the journey. For the bar and lounge area, Di Emme produced a number of Art-deco inspired sculptural elements and faux sandstone planters to house the courtyard greenery.
To meet Altis Architecture’s design brief for the planters, Di Emme hand sculpted relief panels which they cast in fibreglass before applying a custom sandstone finish to match the stone capping.
The Art Deco-inspired statue lamps are also cast in fibreglass and finished with bronze metal powders. Di Emme created a 300mm maquette to demonstrate the scale and style of the figures. Next they built a steel armature with a mesh frame to support a full-size clay model to fine tune the form, posture and textural elements.
Di Emme cast the hands that hold the decorative and functional brass trays, and provided internal supports and robust fixings for durability.
